TRACTION ENGINE

This is taken from Supermodel Model Leaflet No 22. When a teenager, I managed to get hold of a small heap of pre-war Meccano Magazines and this model was the one which I drooled over most. It was designed by the "Spanner" of the day and was capable of pulling a small boy along on a trailer!

I did not know that the "Spanner" in question was Hubert Lansley, the Meccano boy who famously produced his own Meccano paper in the 1920s which got him a job at Binns Road. What I never dreamed in the 1950s was that "Spanner" himself would one day visit me at my home and examine my version of his super little model! So this Traction Engine has been handled by a man who met and shook hands with Frank Hornby, the creator of Meccano!
